Serve With Us

Volunteer & Internships

Why Serve

Compassion, in real practice

Whether you have a few hours a week or a semester to give, there's a place for you on this team. Everything we ask of paid staff - training, supervision, support - we offer to volunteers and interns too.

It matters

Loneliness and isolation are public-health problems. A weekly visit is a real intervention.

It teaches

You'll see person-centered, culturally adapted care up close - and learn skills you can take anywhere.

It connects

Become part of a multilingual, multicultural team that takes care of each other as well as our clients.

Roles Available

Six places to start

Pick the role that fits your goals - or tell us what you're hoping for and we'll find a fit.

Volunteer

Companion Visits

Spend an afternoon listening, playing cards, walking the block. Meaningful for clients living alone.

Volunteer

Community Outreach

Help us connect with faith communities, senior centers, and cultural organizations.

Internship

Nursing Internships

Hands-on supervised hours for BSN, ADN, or LPN programs. We coordinate with your school.

Internship

Social Work Internships

BSW, MSW, or related programs - care coordination, advocacy, and case management exposure.

Internship

Public Health Internships

Project-based work on community health, cultural adaptation, or program evaluation.

Volunteer

Event Support

Help with health fairs, volunteer drives, and culturally-anchored community events.

Voices

From our volunteers and interns

My WeHelp internship was the first time I saw what culturally adapted care actually looks like in practice. It changed how I want to nurse.

Aisha R.

BSN intern, 2024

I started visiting one client on Saturdays. A year in, it's the part of my week I look forward to most.

Common Questions

FAQs

Do you cover background-check costs?+
Yes. WeHelp pays for BCA and federal background screening for every volunteer and intern.
What hours do interns work?+
Hours are tailored to your program's requirements - typically 8-20 hours/week during a semester, with flexibility for finals.
Is there compensation?+
Volunteer roles are unpaid but include reimbursable mileage. Some internship programs include stipends through partner schools - we'll be upfront during the intake call.
Can I volunteer if I'm not bilingual?+
Absolutely. Bilingual abilities are a plus, not a requirement. We have meaningful roles for everyone.
Is this a path to employment?+
Often yes. Many of our caregivers and coordinators started as volunteers or interns. We'd rather hire someone we already trust.
